On a previous HowTo article on FSMdotCOM , you learned how to jailbreak your brand new iPhone 3Gs and of course how to get Cydia as well.
Unfortunately , ”Winterboard” does not work correctly. Following the installation, the Springboard continues to crash by sending the phone in Safe Mode.
The only way to solve this problem is to uninstall the utility, which, at the time, you should not even try to install it.
Saurik already knows about the problem, and as soon as there is a response about this problem, you will be the first ones to know.
Reason for this is simple: GeoHotz jailbreak method lacks some patches to the kernel that do not allow the use of Winterboard.

The new purplera1n rc2 is out and it does patch the kernel. Winterboard still doesn’t work though, its all up to Saurik now.

so i just installed winterboard and i cant even get it back on only the apple screen appears so anybody know what i can do to fix this?

how would they fix it? i cant even get it to reconize in itunes theyll probably have to make some program or something or else alot of people are screwed including me

hey just keep rebooting it and it should go into safemode then from there you can go into cydia and uninstall winterboard then it wil run normal hope this helps

i did my jailbreak & unlock and i install just to know and it did crash …
i just reboot and uninstall it with cydia …. let me know when they fix it ….

Ok first I would like to say that the only time my iPhone got "bricked" was when I downloaded an app from cydia and my iPhone 3g crashed right away but me being as impatient as I am I tryed rebooting it and pressing buttons and that's the only time that my phone was not gonna turn back on in safe mode or at all . I can not say for certain that me pressing the buttons def cause it but it has happened to me a few times after that and I just let it do it's thing and it turned back on so I would say if it happenes to you just leave it alone for about 15-20 min and if it's still not turning on the you have to do a restore and re-jailbreak . It sux to have to restore it but but it's not the end of the world it's much better to do a full restore re-jailbreak then to throw it against the wall like I wanted to do !! You can find many videos on how to "unbrick" on YouTube I recommend watching dinozambas videos as he makes great videos and walks you threw step by step . Good luck

i had to restore my iphone. you can do this in itunes while the iphone is plugged into your computer.

for me, i didn't need to do a full restore. all i had to do was plug it into my mac, rerun purplera1n. it'll kick it out of the apple loader screen into restore mode then it'll proceed to rejailbreak. you're iphone should then reboot into safe mode, then delete winterboard, reboot and you should be find with no loss programs, but you'll need to redo some of your settings since certain things get restored to default.

I'm sure everybody is aware but for the few that aren't Winterboard is a GO now as of this morning !!! You have to download the update to mobile sub in cydia then download Winterboard also irealsms is up and running perfectly on my 3gs !!!!! Shout out to all you computer wizards thanks for making this shizzle possible !!!

everybody listen up….if your iphone is in safe mode, and if youre still able to use the iphone while it’s in safe mode, this is what you gotta do
1. open cydia
2. go to manage
3. go to packages
4.click on the pakage you installed that caused it to go into safe mode (most common winterboard)
5.then it should ask you if you want to uninstall? (and you’ll put yes)
6.restart the iphone and it should be out of safe mode.
repeating apple problem aka apple of death
if you restart your ipod, and the apple keeps flashing on the screen or sustains, then you have to force your ipod into disk mode and restore it, yeah i know sucks.
this is the simple way of doing it.
1. open itunes on computer
2. make sure ihpone is shut off (do it manually by holding the home button and power button)
3. connect the usb cable only, to the computer
4. while holding down the home button connect it to the usb cable that should already be in the computer by now.
5.when it shows the picture of the usb plug and the itunes logo, that’s when you let go of the home button.
6.restore your iphone through itunes

My iphone 3gs crashed after downloading winter board it work perfectly yesterday except for the sms themes but now all of a sudden everything on the screen is huge and i am unable to move any thing HELP!

1.reboot your iphone
2. try to access cydia and disable w/e themes or w/e u enabled
3. try to go to cydia and remove winterboard

@Nick: download the 3.0 FW and restore. than JB. Or just wait cause iPhone DevTeam will release the new PwnageTool that supports iPhone 3Gs and iTouch 2G today.

Winterboard works fine with 3gs os3.1 after jailbreak with blackra1n. If you installed cydia, icy or rock on 3g connection try again with wi-fi. Also, install cydia solo instead of checking them all. That’s what I did and it fixed the problem.
