MS Office for iPhone

Dataviz, well-known for their Palm OS Software re promising to bring MS Office editing to the iPhone via their new app, DocumentsToGo. The app will be demoed at the Mobile World Congress which runs February 16-19 in Barcelona. The app will also run on Android.

Pricing information has not been released, but the app for Palm OS runs $89.99 in its fullest form, with two lighter version at $49.99 (doesn’t support Outlook on that version) and $29.99 (missing a ton of features, like Mac-created doc support). It’d be interesting to see if they stay at that price point or try to go lower – they really have no competition in this arena.

The closest competitor at the moment is MobileFiles Pro by Quickoffice, which only allows for editing of Excel files, and reading of other MS Office documents. That app sells for $9.99.

How To Create a Cydia Repository

What is Repository (Repo) :

A way of a developer distributing apps through installer/cydia. For example: Once you(a Dev) makes a repo you put your apps in it then can distribute the link of the repo to others so they can install your apps via installer.

What you will need to start a Repo :

  • A computer running a Linux Distro ( maybe latest version of Ubuntu.)
  • A website where you have FTP access to host the repo
  • Files that you will copy to two directories on your Linux machine . Get them from here
  • Any app or theme, because nobody wants an emtpy repo

Google Analytics Finally Arrives For iPhone and iPod Touch

analytics

I was waiting for this for a loong looong time. Finally Michael Jensen decided to create such an application for this wonderful device. If you are a blogger, or a website owner, or basically you got anything going own on the www. , than i can place a safe bet that you are obsessed with this word ” analytics ” . I was until like 2 months ago. I was checking my stats every hour. Until i realized that, it was useless to do so.

That doesnt mean, that i stopped checking my analytics. Not at all, but now i calculate every move i make in this world. Anyway, this post is not about me teaching you how to blog. So let’s get back to the main subject. GOOGLE ANALYTICS ON MY ( and yours ) iPhone !!!!!!! I was really surprised when I’ve stumbled upon Analytics App.com

When you first load the app , it will ask you to insert the email address and the password that you use to login into your Google Analytics account. This is usually your gmail address and password. Once you are logged in, you step into the wonderful world of analytics, but now, this world is ON THE GO.

Continuing this post is useless. If you are interested in something like this, and you are reading this post, that means that my writing journey for this post stops here. I don’t need to explain any further what is analytics, what you can do with it and so on.

I will attach screenshots of this app below, and you can click on them to enlarge the pic and see what this app can offer you.

ClearCam – 4 MP Photos on iPhone

What’s up this is AnthonyKash from over at TheNovus.net. It’s a new day and a new app out on Cydia. ClearCam boast to take your 2 megapixel iPhone and turn it into 4 megapixels. The developer’s site is located at http://www.occipital.com/ . ClearCam offers “enhanced mode” which snaps 6 pics in 2.5 seconds and combines and enhances all the images to give you that nice 4 megapixel picture you’ve been waiting for. Because it’s a 4 megapixel image the photo’s can be enlarged with better clarity and visibly less noise.

This great app also offers the “QucikShot” setting which rapidly shoots off 4 pics and then chooses the best one and tosses the rest. The only downside is that this app costs $10 but the upside is it’s available for free , cracked wide open for all of us to use on the xSellize Cydia repo. To add the repo go to http://www.xsellize.com/ and sign up for free and add their source, xsellize.com/cydia/user-pass/ to Cydia where user is your user name and pass is your password. Now remember if you like the app go out and support the developers and buy it.

murda the funky space monkey edit :

Usually for a point and shoot cam , you dont need more than , lets say , 5 MP. Although i really dont see a 4 MP quality in the pics shot with the iphone using ClearCam. iPhone’s photo camera diaphragm is too small to capture all the light and details for a 4MP quality pic.

That being said, you should really try this app, because there is a minimal but visible enhancement in the quality of the pic. BTW : trying this on a natural day light wont serve you any good. The iPhone takes beautiful pics on those conditions anyway. Play around with it, see if it suits you, and like Anthony said ( glad you pointed that out ) : if you think that this app suits you, buy it!

Do Not Update to Firmware 2.2.1

The Dev-Team has announced that the new firmware 2.2.1 closes the “Injection hole” used by yellowsn0w to unlock 3G iPhones. While the “injection hole” still exists in the 1st gen iPhones you still should not upgrade until the Dev-Team updates the Pwns. You have been warned. It usually takes 24 to 48 hours for the Dev-Team to update the Pwns. So just sit back and relax, they are working on it.NO update ICON

If you are on an official carrier the unlock is of no importance to you. In a day or two (hopefully) QuickPwn will be updated to use the new 2.2.1 firmware. You will be able to update then, and rejailbreak.

If you need the unlock hold off on any updates until otherwise given the go ahead. Updating will result in your iPhone being locked and unusable on your nonofficial carrier. In the past Pwnagetool has been able to update while preserving the baseband of your iPhone. I can not state this will be the case for the new Firmware. The closing of the “injection hole” sounds more like Apple didn’t update the baseband, but just secured the vulnerability in the 2.2 firmware.

You might ask why would Apple only block the unlock and not jailbreaking also. Well Apple has contracts with carriers all over the world to be the only carriers that offer service for the 3G.  Apple doesn’t want to stop jailbreaking because it voids your warranty. Basically the same as if you bought a brand new 3G and went out in the parking lot and smashed it on the ground. Apple isn’t going to replace it. If you break your iPhone you have to buy another, and that makes Apple more money. If you unlock your phone Apple loses money, because if they don’t stop you they get sued by the carriers. It’s your iPhone you can do what ever you want with it. Apple just has to cover their butts and try to keep them locked to official carriers.

I hope this not only convinced you to wait on your firmware upgrade, but also explained to you why you should always hold off until the Dev-Team has had time to update the Pwns to work with the new firmwares. New features are fine and dandy as long as they don’t take away all the other nifty features you have added.

Change Labels Like “Slide to Unlock” on Your iPhone

slider

  • SSH to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/
  • Copy SpringBoard.strings to your computer and rename it to SpringBoard.plist
  • Look for string AWAY_LOCK_LABEL
  • Chnage that to what ever you like ( i suggest FSMdotCOM 😛 ) ( NOTE : change only the string , dont change the key )
  • Rename the file back to SpringBoard.strings
  • Copy the new edited file back to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/
  • Reboot your device

JUST TO MAKE SURE

………………….

<key>AWAY_LOCK_LABEL</key>
<string>slide to unlock</string> <—- CHANGE ONLY THAT
<key>AWAY_MISSED_CALL_LABEL</key>

………………….

NOTE 1 :

ALWAYS BACKUP the files that you are editing

NOTE 2 :

This is an example on how to change the slide to unlock label. But you can do this with any label you like. Just be careful and more importantly have fun
