A couple of days ago, Apple had quietly pushed a new build of iOS 5.0.1, as an incremented update over the original iOS 5.0.1. The updated was not being pushed to all users, but only made available to those newly updated to iOS 5.0.1 and its purpose was unclear.
It turns out that the updated build was designed to address an issue some iPhone 4S users have been experiencing with SIM card related errors.
Even if this update is relevant for a small portion of users, in the end if may affect all of us. The new build is being shipped unencrypted and wide open for inspection, allowing developers to easily grab all the Siri files they need for a port without piracy.
