For the first time, you can now watch movies and TV shows from the Amazon Instant Video collection on an iOS device. Amazon yesterday published the Amazon Instant Video app for free in the App Store. For now, at least, the app only works on iPad.

The Amazon Instant Video library contains over 100,000 movies and TV shows to rent or buy, many of which are made free to Amazon Prime members. It has been a chief competitor with Netflix and Hulu, both of whom already have iPad apps available.

The list of devices compatible with Amazon videos now includes Kindle Fire, Mac, PC, Roku, Smart TVs and Blu-Ray, Xbox 360 and more.

The Amazon Instant Video app is available for free in the app store
