Today on Twitter, the place where celebrities are killed off without a coroner’s certificate, a rumor sprang up that the next iPhone will cost somewhere around $800. A trending topic, #800dollarsforaniPhone, began to spread with people basically losing their shit at the prospect of having to nearly drop a stack on Apple’s next handset.
Relax, everyone. While we don’t know exactly what Apple has in store for the next iPhone, we’re nearly positive it won’t cost more than the most expensive configuration of the iPhone 4S (64 GB for $399). Mashable traced the source of the rumor back to a Chinese auction site called taobao.com, that has what is supposed to be the next iPhone listed for what would be $800 to $1,050.
