iPhone 4S: Drops October 14th, Comes in 16/32/64GB Capacities, Starts at $199

The wait is over. Apple just announced the new iPhone 4S. The new iPhone looks exactly like the iPhone 4, but inside ” it’s all new ” : a dual-core A5 CPU, new dual-core GPU ( supposedly boosts graphics performance by up to 7x ), same 3.5-inch Retina Display, antennae was revamped and connected to a dual-mode GSM and CDMA radio ( 14.4Mbps HSPA+ or EVDO ) and iOS 5 will intelligently switch between two different sets on the fly to avoid dropping calls,.

We will get a new 8MP camera with with a backside illuminated CMOS sensor for better low-light performance. The lens now comes packed in a new 5-element assembly with a hybrid IR filter and sports apertures down to f/2.4. The iPhone 4S can record 1080p video and has a new image signal processor for image stabilization and facial recognition. It also needs only 1.1 seconds to get ready for the first shot and only 0.5 seconds for the second one.

Probably, the most exciting thing will be Siri virtual assistant, which comes with every iPhone 4S. You just need to tap the mic on the keyboard and start do about anything you can do on your iPhone. More on Siri in a future article.

Apple claims the new processor doesn’t impact the life of the battery. All the contrary. They say it will give you 8 hours talking battery life with 3G networks. If you set your phone to 2G, you will get 14 hours of talk time. 3G web browsing will give you six hours of battery life, while Wi-Fi access runs up to nine hours.

The iPhone 4S will be available in black and white ( let’s hope so ) and will cost:

  • 16GB – $199
