ContactPrivacy: Get Prompted When Apps Want Access To Your Addressbook

In the past couple of days, Path – a popular social networking app – was heavily criticized after developer Arun Thampi discovered that the app is uploading its users’ addressbooks to its servers without asking for permission ( for more info read Arun’s blog ).

Inspired by this unexpected event, Ryan Petrich has quickly developed a tweak that will prompt you whenever an app wants to access your contacts database. The tweak is called ContactPrivacy, and you can get it via Ryan’s private repo in Cydia ( http://rpetri.ch/repo ).

This is a prime example why jailbreaking is not a crime. You can use it when you sign the petition ( hurry, only 1 day left – help EFF to keep jailbreaking legal ).
