Free Skype-to-Skype Calls Over 3G By The End Of 2010

We don’t know yet, how much we will have to pay but we do know that nobody is happy about this decision. The app got horrible reviews and ratings, and Skype decided to extend the free Skype-to-Skype calls over 3G period.

Earlier today we told you that Skype finally enabled 3G calling on the iPhone with their new app update. We also told you that the company plans to charge an additional monthly fee. We don’t know yet, how much we will have to pay but we do know that nobody is happy about this decision. The app got horrible reviews and ratings, and Skype decided to extend the free Skype-to-Skype calls over 3G period.

Over the coming months we’ll be working out what pricing options might be – and don’t forget that Skype is all about great value. Calling over 3G will be no exception. In the meantime, Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G will be free until the end of 2010, so download and enjoy. Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi will remain free – and you can make calls to landlines and mobiles around the world at our incredibly low rates.

Skype finally released the new app that supports calling over 3G, but the company plans to charge an additional monthly fee.

A few months ago we told you that Skype will bring SILK audio codec over 3G. Well they finally released the new app that supports calling over 3G, but the company plans to charge an additional monthly fee.

  • Call using your 3G connection. Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G are free until the end of 2010, after which there will be a small monthly fee (operator charges for data will still apply).

Skype To Bring SILK Audio Codec Over 3G

Although Apple enabled VoIP over 3G a week ago, and providers like Fring took advantage right away, Skype is delaying their update.

A week ago, Apple enabled VoIP over 3G and services like Fring had Skype working over 3G right away. Skype, is delaying their services over 3G for now, but the good news is that for the latest iTouch and iPhone users ( devices with faster ARM processors ) Skype will enable the SILK audio codec which allows CD quality sound on Skype-to-Skype Calls.

iCall: Apple Lifts VoIP Over 3G Limitation

Apple updated the terms of the SDK to allow VoIP calls over 3G even though some operators, like Tmobile in Germany, don’t allow VoIP calls on their network.

Just yesterday we told you that Google Voice is available on the iPhone as a webapp. After all the fuss and fight that most VoIP apps went through, Apple updated the terms of the SDK to allow VoIP calls over 3G even though some operators, like Tmobile in Germany, don’t allow VoIP calls on their network.  iCall also has push notifications, rounding out a pretty impressive specs list — one that finally makes VoIP a first class citizen on the iPhone.

AT&T: Announcing VoIP Over 3G For iPhone Tomorrow at CTIA

CTIA is a wireless conference in San Diego.In attendance will be key AT&T executives, two of which are slated to give keynote speeches. The word on the street was that AT&T will announce that Skype and Google Voice will run on their network via the iPhone

A source of Washington Post says that the debating is still in process at AT&T and the executives have been contemplating “the decision for weeks and … have said they were close to accepting voice over Internet services on all AT&T phones, including the iPhone.”.
