Miniot Reinvents the Wheel with this Minimalist Turntable [video]

The record finally gets the turntable it deserves. Wheel is a record player that’s just a wheel.

Novelty turntables seems to be all the rage lately. From smartphone-controlled turntables to floating turntable to vertical turntables.

So why not add another one to the list? A turntable that’s “just a wheel”…

The World’s First Intelligent Turntable

LOVE maintains the intimacy and quality of vinyl records but adds modern day smart features, while keeping the crackles & pops.

With over 650 records in my collection, I’m obviously intrigued by what the market has to offer in terms of turntables. One turntable that captured my attention lately is Love – the world’s first intelligent turntable.

At first glance, the turntable seems to be the result of a one night stand gone wrong between a Furutech deStat Antistatic Device and a Shard VZ boombox with record player. But it’s so much more.

and just like that your old, beat up records will sound like new again

sugarcube-sc1-sc2-FSMdotCOM

It doesn’t matter if you dry or wet clean your records, it doesn’t matter if you use wood glue, home-made fluids with Tergitol ( used by the Library of Congress ), isopropyl alcohol and photo-flo or use commercially available fluids like L’art du Son ( there are other fluids that you might like, L’art du Son is the one I use ) .

You can use a vacuum cleaner or a sonic cleaner. It doesn’t matter. If the record has damaged grooves or deep scratches you’re going to hear those clicks and pops, no matter what you do.

Enter SugarCube – the first non-destructive, click and pop removal component for vinyl records.

u4085-App1.jpeg

If you’re into music collecting, especially vinyl records, you definitely shopped at least once on Discogs. And I’m sure you have your collection, or most of it, on discogs. Or maybe just your wishlist. The only problem so far was that if you wanted to use Discogs on the go, you had two options: a. use the mobile version in a browser b. use a 3rd party app like MilkCrateDiscollector or discographic ( personally, I use discographic right now ). Well all of that is about to change as Discogs is finally releasing an official iOS app and it will be available for free in the App Store on Monday, February 29.

If you’re into vinyl collecting, you definitely shopped at least once on Discogs. And I’m sure you have your collection, or most of it, on discogs. Or just your wishlist. But the problem with discogs is that there isn’t a truly good iOS app for it. And discogs aren’t interested in building one. Of course there are apps like MilkCrate and Discollector, but here’s one with the potential to rule them all: discographic.

IKEA Releases Statement To Reassure Vinyl Collectors On Expedit Replacement

times might not be so dark after all

ikea-expedit

If you collect vinyl and live in the Western world, you’ve probably come across an Expedit. Hell, if you’re over 30 years old, you’ve probably ended up shaving your knuckles building multiples of the towering matrix of 12″ x 12″ shelves, and they have quite rightly become an extra member of the family for many vinyl junkies the world over.

When Ikea revealed it was to discontinue the popular shelves earlier this week, there was predictable backlash as fans launched angry Tweets, not understanding why Ikea would offer such a death blow to the vinyl community. The Swedish furniture giant talked about a replacement, but what could replace the humble Expedit? It was perfect.

Record Collectors It’s Time To Panic & Freak Out. IKEA Discontinues The Iconic ‘Expedit’ Shelving Range

IKEA recently announced that they are discontinuing their Expedit line of bookshelves—at least in Germany—and the news has sparked an intense reaction among German vinyl enthusiasts

ikea-expedit-vinyl-shwlves-FSMdotCOMFind a record collector anywhere in this world and chances are that his/hers beloved collection lies comfortably in an IKEA Expedit shelf. For years and years, KEA’s bookshelf has been the storage unit of choice for vinyl enthusiasts because it’s sturdy and each unit is the perfect height and depth for a 12″ record.

Even though last year IKEA embraced the vinyl community with the makeover of Harry Love’s record room, featuring the ubiquitous Expedit, now the Swedish home store has announced that they will be discontinuing their Expedit shelving range.
