HOW TO: Find Social Media Accounts by Username

an easy way to find usernames across social media networks

Over the time you’ve created quite a few profiles on different services and, chances are, you used the same username for all of them.  ( hopefully not the same password – never use the same password everywhere. Use a password manager like KeePass or Bitwarden ).

It’s definitely a good idea to audit your username(s) and delete those profiles if you’re not using them anymore. And to make your job easier, you can hunt down your username(s) across a vast list of services using Sherlock.

HowTo: Disable iTunes BackUp With One Click [Mac]

In the last couple of day, you could read on FSMdotCOM that you shouldn’t restore your iPhone from the iTunes backup after a fresh restore (does it make sense?!?!? ) , and you should always set your device as a “New Phone” after restoring. That’s the case, of course, if you use a jailbroken device.

FSMdotCOM, also showed you how to manually backup every single thing from your iPhone, so you wont loose any precious data. But, if this is the case, and it is not recommended to restore the device from the iTunes backup, what’s the point of backing the device anyway?

HowTo: Back Up Your iPhone SMS Messages and Contacts

Dev-Team posted a new article on their blog today, where they give us some recommendations. You all know about the “war” between iPhone DevTeam and GeoHot right? Well after the twitter dispute ( which you can read here , here and here ) the DevTeam has responded that the excessive use of the battery does not occur because of ultrasn0w (which is very light) but because you restore from Backup.

Therefore, it is always advisable to configure your device as a “new iPhone”. The music and applications may be re-synchronized later with a single click anyway. They also advise us to have the previous version of ultrasn0w before you upgrade to 0.9 . So lets check out how to backup your data so you will not face this problem anymore:

How to save Contacts Database:

  • SSH into the iPhone and go to /private/var/mobile/Library/AddressBook
  • you will find 2 files there. save them on your computer.

How to save Messages Database:

  • SSH to your phone and go to /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS
  • Save sms.db on your computer

Now you got everything saved. So from now on you can use this backup method, and every time you restore , you will set your iPhone as a “New Phone” . So, you got all that cover, but how do you restore the files on your “New Phone” ?

  • jailbreak your iPhone and install OpenSSH from Cydia.
  • once you got your iPhone jailbroken and OpenSSH installed, SSH into your iPhone , go to the same paths, and overwrite the existing files on your phone with the ones you saved on your computer before restoring your iPhone.

HowTo: Fix Cydia Suddenly Crash

After scooping and asking around, i found out there is not certain why this is happening, but it seems to be related to the BigBoss’s repository . So , the only way to be able to load Cydia again, w/o having to re-jailbreak, is to delete the repository and re-add it.

It all started last week when Cydia crashed and i couldnt open it anymore. Pretty busy this days , with all sorts of stuff ( FSMdotCOM related and non-related ) , so the easiest thing for me was just to re-jailbreak , and get over it.

Since i didnt see any fuss about it on the www , i thought it was just me, so i decided to just let it go. But in the last couple of days, i received some emails from you guys reporting the same problem. So if there is a problem, there’s always a solution.
