Tips on Saving Battery Life for iPhone and iPod Touch

Everybody is complaining about the battery life on iPhone 3G. Well there are a couple of things you can do to save your battery life. This will not have a strict order and some of them tips might not suit you.

  • Once per week try to use all the battery life of your iPhone/iPod Touch and than charge it 100%. By doing this you will reset your battery. The more you recharge your device, without letting the battery die completely, the lower your ‘battery capacity’ is.
  • If you got a jailbreaked device, you know how fast your battery life is sucked . One of the reasons is SSH. The SSH process is running in the background when any network activity is available. You can turn this off with BossPreff or SBSettings.
  • Do you have WiFi? Great thing this WiFi huh? Have you noticed how much battery life this sucks, especially when paired with browsing the web? Well when not used or you are out of its reach, you can turn it off. If WiFi is on, and your not in a hotspot, it will constantly search for networks in background, and your loosing battery life for nothing.
  • Speaking of WiFi…. when you use WiFi turn EDGE and 3G off. ( If you want to use 3G, you NEED TO HAVE EDGE ON . 3G will not work if EDGE is not on )
  • Dim the screen dudes. Really who stands the 100% brightness on the 3G? I really cant , it hurts my eyes. And if you got it set to 100% this beautiful screen will suck the battery life like crazy.
  • Turn off Auto-Brightness . Well , first of all this is annoying ( to me ), and if off it will not only stop increasing the brightness level, it will also use less resources ( nothing to monitor )
  • You might also want to set Auto-Lock to 1 min. The more your screen in on ( if not used ), the more battery its using.
  • Do you like your sound effects? Some of them are cool, but if you don’t want to turn them off, at least set them to either Speaker or Headphones. By default sound effects are set to both.
  • You might also want to turn off EQ. If EQ is off, less resources used to monitor .
  • Try to check your emails less. When emails is checked there is network activity.

Again, this has no particular order and some of them ( or most of them ) might not suit you. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU TO RESET YOUR BATTERY ( see bullet-point 1 ). This is a must, and its not only for iPhone or iPod Touch. The other tips or hints are optional.

Do you remember 2+ years ago when Steve Jobs first said the magic word : ” iPhone ” ? I know you do, but you remember it as a fan, in some cases a worshiper, but still…. You know who remembers that day like it was yesterday ? EVERYBODY in the industry. When the iPhone came out, it ruined everybodys plans. Everybody wants to copy the iPhone, but they didn’t succeed not even today after all this time.

I’m not talking here about the N97, or the android, not even about the Blackberry. Those are still top notch phones, that can be a real threat for the iPhone. But are you aware about the Asian cell phone industry?

Does the name iAlertU rings any bells? If it does, than you either are a lucky bastard who owns a macbook pro, either you are obsessed and dream of the day when you will buy a apple lappy. ToneFXs – Customize Every System Sound of Your iPhone

The thing is , well all love and appreciate this wonderful technological jewel : the iPhone. But the truth is that on some levels you lack the ability to express yourself with it. Like how many of you wanted to customize the new text message sound. I bet 99.99% of you. Well it is doable but its just too much work that need to be done, in order to achieve that. And isn’t Apple products the ones that ” ..they just work ” ?

Well let me introduce you today to ToneFXs . This app is a great app that lets you customize your iPhone in the way you want to, make it personal. There are 2 parts in this story. First you need a jailbroken iPhone. Once you got a jailbroken iPhone, download and install ToneFXs via cydia onto your iPhone.Now you need to download the desktop app from Efiko Software ( both for Mac and PC ). Once you’ve completed this two steps, you are basically ready to go.

Plug you iPhone into your computer, lunch the program, browse computer for files, rename your files and send them to your iPhone. As simple as it can get. Once you sent all the sounds to your iPhone,  the files will show up now in your option list. ToneFXs allows you to customize just about every system sound of the iPhone. One thing it can’t do is to assign different texts alrets sounds to every contact. I hope they will work on that, cause that would be badass.

The price is donation-based. You can give anywhere from $5 to $15 on the website, and you’ll receive a serial to plug into the app.

You do need to be aware of the caveat that Efiko puts on their site:

If you are familiar with all the past drama that started with iPhone 1.1, you should know we can’t guarantee this app will work in future iPhone and iTunes software because we don’t know what new lock down measures Apple may add to these upcoming iPhone updates that may prevent ToneFXs from working. Thus, we won’t offer refunds if ToneFXs does not work in future iPhone Software. Apple may decide to prevent this customization for whatever reason, however we doubt it as it’s a whole lot of fun and harmless. Click Browse Computer and search for audio files on you HDD.

Select an audio file that you like and click open.

1. Thats the slider. It is locked on 15 seconds. You can make it less than 15 seconds if you want to and you can position it where you want. Listen to the tune and decide which 15 seconds of it do you want as a sound on you iPhone and position the slider there.

2. Fade in and Fade out the sound. If you don’t want that just delect them

3. Preview to make sure that is what you want.

4. Send to your phone. Thats it. ToneFXs does it magic super fast and the sound its on your phone.
