SkinTrack Turns Your Arm Into a Touchscreen for Your Smartwatch [video]

SkinTrack is a wearable system that enables continuous touch tracking on the skin. It consists of a ring, which emits a continuous high frequency AC signal, and a sensing wristband with multiple electrodes. Due to the phase delay inherent in a high-frequency AC signal propagating through the body, a phase difference can be observed between pairs of electrodes. SkinTrack measures these phase differences to compute a 2D finger touch coordinate. Our approach can segment touch events at 99% accuracy, and resolve the 2D location of touches with a mean error of 7.6mm. The technology is not yet available for the public but due to the non-invasive, low-cost and low-powered approach it’s a strong possibility that it will integrated into future smartwatches.

Kairos: World’s First and Only Mechanical Smartwatch Hybrid [video]

Everybody seems to be tapping the smartwatch market right now. Some products are worth mentioning, others were in a rush to be among the first to hit the market. Few of them are as stunning as the Kairos mechanical-digital hybrid, which is pretty much the materialization of the Apple x Rolex concept we’ve seen a few weeks ago. And I say pretty much because, well, the watch isn’t real right now, but the Kairos claims that it will be shipping the first versions in December of this year.

LG Teases The “G Watch” In New Video

LG is probably going to officially announce the ‘G Watch‘ smartwatch and new top of the line G3 phone later this month so don’t expect any further details on the product(s). However, if you like to be teased, LG released a short promo video for the ‘G Watch’ where you can kinda see its Android Wear software in motion and a few 360-degrees rotations of the smartwatch.

BTNotificationEnabler allows you to send ALL push notifications to your smart watch

If you recall we recently did a story on the new Pebble smartwatch. Ive been using it since then and it has practically become indispensable. I absolutely love it. There is however one tiny nagging issue.

Because of Apple’s guidelines for how things talk back and forth over bluetooth, and I suppose the fact that we are still in “1.x land”, there are some issues with notifications coming through to the watch.

Phone calls and SMS alerts come across just as they should, but everything else remains silent unless you manually go into Notification Center and toggle each item off and on. While this may be a viable solution for some, its a royal PITA. This is of coarse because you have to manually do this EVERY time it connects via bluetooth. Meaning if it’s working and you walk out of range for a second, then back… your screwed and have to do it again. Add the recently released jailbreak, with all its resprings and such and you have a veritable nightmare on your hands. Its really frustrating. Thankfully someone out there in jailbreak dev land loves us.
