GeoHot Responding To DevTeam’s Complaints About PurpleSn0w

s a result of this morning, in which the DevTeam complained of safety problems in Purplesn0w, due to excessive usage of Baseband RAM, GeoHotz has just responded by saying that this potential problem could occur with the RC1 but, the new version uses exactly ZERO bytes of RAM

Everybody knows by know about the “war” between GeoHot and the DevTeam. GeoHot released PurpleSn0w RC2 today, and the DevTeam released a new version of UltraSn0w as well.

Than the DevTeam complained about PurpleSn0w but GeoHot didnt wait too much to respond.

So, as a result of this morning, in which the DevTeam complained of safety problems in Purplesn0w, due to excessive usage of Baseband RAM, GeoHotz has just responded by saying that this potential problem could occur with the RC1 but, the new version uses exactly ZERO bytes of RAM

Basically the hack is still cleaner and safer than the DevTeam. In addition to being faster and without background processes. So, finally, if you need to unlock an iPhone 3GS foreigner, used purplesn0w.

PurpleSn0w Source Code Available To Download

I wrote a payload and delivery system in a day. And it’s an awesome payload. Ideally we’d like to patch the lock out of flash, but with the apparently proper sig checks, that isn’t going to happen. So purplesn0w is the next best thing. I copy the page I want to patch to an unused region of memory. In memory I patch it. Then, using the MMU, I map the flash page out and remap the patched memory page in it’s place.

I said it before and i say it again. The war between DevTeam and GeoHot is stupid. No idea how, such bright minds, can let such primitive feelings get in the way of their work. But usually competition is beneficial for the people ( users ) , but sometimes can also harm us.

While DevTeam is busy to update their version of iPhone Sim Unlock ( ultrasn0w ) and criticize everything GeoHot does, the boy genius proves himself as a true hacker and a devoted and loyal member of the open source community by making his purplesn0w source code available for anybody to download.

DevTeam Releases UltraSn0w 0.9 And Continues The Fight Against GeoHot And PurpleSn0w RC2

This is ridiculous. Geeks have the most messed up ego ever. The war between DevTeam and GeoHot continues. DevTeam released an update to UltraSn0w that comes to version 0.9 and uses the MobileSubstrate for the implementation of the Daemon , making it even lighter and reducing the use of memory and battery.

The team has made several criticisms of GeoHot and sound brand new Purplesn0w RC2:

First, this method is the same that was used by the old software as AnySIM on 1.x firmware since then have changed a lot of things, so it is not the best solution. Secondly, they point out that patching the CommCenter is not a sure bet. They also say that the method adopted by GeoHot  overwrites a block of memory to 1MB on 8 available. Really, what?!?! ( just work together, and make it harder better faster stronger for the users all over the world. Isnt this the reason that you started this game in the first place? )

Ultrasn0w instead uses only 152 bytes of RAM Baseband, that is 0.015% compared to purplesn0w and therefore is safer. With the new version 0.9 DevTeam the calls to abandon purplesn0w daemon and choose a lighter rather than a potential problem with the Baseband. On the other hand we find that GeoHot is proud of his new Hack.

In these cases it is difficult to write a “universal board” because each user has different needs, but ….:

  • If you prefer the security than use DevTeam’s UltraSn0w 0.9
  • If you prefer the “right now”, simplicity and the “lightness”, than use GeoHot’s PurpleSn0w RC2 of GeoHot

GeoHot Issues PurpleSn0w RC2: iPhone 3Gs Sim Unlock

GeoHot, as promised, has released the update for tonight, of his new tool purplesn0w, which comes to RC2 and introduces several enhancements that make it even faster and lighter.

GeoHot, as promised, has released the update for tonight, of his new tool purplesn0w, which comes to RC2 and introduces several enhancements that make it even faster and lighter.

As you can hear even BigBoss saying , GeoHot’s tool is a better solution than the DevTeam because this is not a daemon running in the background, and no task is inactive on your Baseband. This update also patch just one file: CommCenter.

A quick look in the ChangeLog , will reveal the following:

  • Fixed some problems with the speed of the 3G network
  • This time purplesn0w is patching only one file : CommCenter
  • Leaves no trace on Baseband after execution
  • Very clean and reliable

PurpleSn0w to be installed only on the iPhone 3Gs and used to unlock the phone with any SIM card. If you use ultrasn0w, or the first version of purplesn0w, to install the update on your 3Gs you must perform these steps:

  • Be sure to have legit activated 3GS
  • Disable 3G if you don’t have it(like T-Mobile).
  • Add apt.geohot.com to Cydia
  • Install com.geohot.purplesn0w
  • Watch for success output in Cydia
  • Reboot, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone

NOTE: do not apply this hack if you live in a country where devices are not locked by law ( ex Italy or Australia ).

BigBoss: Purplesn0w Better 3Gs Unlock Than UltraSn0w

BigBoss has written a new article on his blog where he is saying that PurpleSn0w is better than UltranSn0w. This is something people dont expect , since BigBoss is close to the DevTeam.

Pros are many and we start from the very fact that the method of applying the GeoHot hack does not provide the use of daemons and background processes.

The only con is that it can not be turned off with a Toggle, but, frankly, who is in need of a toggle to turn off the phone? (And in any case already exists the Airplane Mode).

Anyway, let’s recap how to use PurpleSn0w:

  • Be sure to have legit activated 3GS
  • Disable 3G if you don’t have it(like T-Mobile).
  • Add apt.geohot.com to Cydia
  • Install com.geohot.purplesn0w
  • Watch for success output in Cydia
  • Reboot, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone

HowTo: Use PurpleSn0w: GeoHot Releases iPhone SIM Unlock

GeoHot decided to get serious and pursue his little battle “against” the DevTeam by releasing PurpleSn0w on Cydia, a hack that replaces ultrasn0w and can remove the SIM-Lock the iPhone 3Gs.

GeoHot decided to get serious and pursue his little battle “against” the DevTeam by releasing PurpleSn0w on Cydia, a hack that replaces ultrasn0w and can remove the SIM-Lock the iPhone 3Gs.

GeoHot says that his solution is far better than the DevTeam because this is not a daemon running in the background, no task is inactive on your Baseband. Is a solution much closer to a complete hack and does no more than three files patch Native: CommCenter, lockdownd and plist that regulates the activation of the SIM. Do not install additional files and then read it is, preserving the battery consumption.
