The feature was implemented to help developers with app previews, which Apple introduced as part of iOS 8‘s improvements to the App Store, but it’s definitely not limited to devs only.

Sneak Peak At Apple’s OS X 10.10
With less than 10 minutes to Apple’s keynote at WWDC 2014 ( you can watch it live here ), Mashable’s Lance Ulanoff tweeted a picture of a pair of onstage iMacs, appearing to show off the desktop for Apple’s next major OS, presumably called “Yosemite”. Apple is expected to unveil iOS 8, OS X 10.10, potential new hardware, a home automation platform. Apple is also said to be unveiling more plans for its iBeacon technology. The keynote starts at 10 AM Pacific Time.
