HOW TO: Master Streaming Media With iTunes [ part 1 ]

With iTunes, Airplay, and AppleTV, Apple actually has a wide range of software and devices that can turn your little Mac into a streaming media powerhouse.Learn how to master streaming with iTunes in this 4-part tutorial

With iTunes, Airplay, and AppleTV, Apple actually has a wide range of software and devices that can turn your little Mac into a streaming media powerhouse. There are even more if you turn to the third party developer community. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who are shouting “XMBC!” right now, and I’ve liked what I’ve seen, but I’ve always been sort of a zen kinda Mac user, here. It seems that whenever I find a tool I really like, it gets discontinued or bought up by a bigger fish. Thats why I like using Apple’s built-in tools whenever possible; they’re free, they’re included, and there’s less of a chance they’re going anywhere.

AnyPlay: A Free and Worldwide Available Alternative To Spotify [video]

AnyPlay is a music streaming app that is free, available worldwide and, most importantly, you can find songs/albums Spotify doesn’t offer you.

We all know and love Spotify, but just because it’s so popular it doesn’t mean that it’s the perfect streaming app.  First of all is not available worldwide and second of all, if you want to use it on your mobile device you need to pay for it – which makes sense. But what bothers me more than anything is that their catalog is missing a whole lot of music. Apparently, this only happens with the US Spotify because, I don’t remember not finding most of my searches years ago when I was using an UK Spotify account.

If you have the same problem, at least when you’re mobile, you might be looking for another app that you can use in conjunction with Spotify, preferably with a similar UI so you won’t have to pay too much attention to it. Just hit play and go. Well, AnyPlay might just be the app you’re looking for.

Spotify Adds 320kbps Streaming/Syncing To Its iOS App

Spotify, the Swedish DRM-based music streaming service, has just updated their iOS app to v0.4.23 which adds the ability to stream or sync music at very high quality (320kbps).

We strongly suggest you give Spotify a try, and we guarantee that you’ll end up being one of their premium customers. Also, if you are a premium Spotify user, you also need to check out SpotOn Radio – the first app to use Spotify’s public APIs and one less reason to use Pandora.

Kazaa Drops Music Streaming App for iPhone and iPad

Kazaa may not have exactly caught fire since it ditched its shady past and went the legit route back in 2009, but the company is still around, and it’s now finally released its first mobile app.

Kazaa may not have exactly caught fire since it ditched its shady past and went the legit route back in 2009, but the company is still around, and it’s now finally released its first mobile app. That comes on the form of an iOS app initially (compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch), which itself is completely free and includes a seven-day trial of the Kazaa music service (including unlimited streaming and downloads of “millions and millions of songs”).
