
The first commercial 4G LTE network was rolled out back in 2009 when Swedish operator Teliasonera announced it was launching the next-generation standard. Two years later, by the fourth quarter of 2011, LTE had been launched in 21 countries worldwide (including six of our 17 comparator countries). By the end last year over two million subscribers were using LTE services on 31 networks around the world, according to the GSA.

It seems that AT&T is working to deploy 4th generation technology in 2011. An internal AT&T document reads: ‘AT&T is currently working to deploy this new 4th Generation Technology some time in 2011. This will take us to the next level of higher speed for our wireless data networks. The Chart on page 4 shows the evolution path in terms of speed and the map shows our 700 MHz footprint for GA.‘
