inFORM is a Dynamic Shape Display that can render 3D content physically, so users can interact with digital information in a tangible way. inFORM can also interact with the physical world around it, for example moving objects on the table’s surface. Remote participants in a video conference can be displayed physically, allowing for a strong sense of presence and the ability to interact physically at a distance.

Display Real-Time 3D Video And Audio, Recorded From The Kinect, On The iPad [video]

The guys at Laan Labs used the String Augmented Reality SDK to display real-time 3d video+audio recorded from the Kinect.

The guys at Laan Labs used the String Augmented Reality SDK to display real-time 3d video+audio recorded from the Kinect. Libfreenect from http://openkinect.org/ project was used for recording the data coming from the Kinect. A textured mesh was created from the calibrated depth+rgb data for each frame and played back in real-time. A simple depth cutoff allowed us isolate the person in the video from the walls and other objects.

Directors Showcase, Cannes [video]

The graphics app used was made in Cinder and there are 3 stage computers each with a Kinect running an OpenNI-based openFrameworks application that sends information over OSC. The software was controlled live with controls mapped to an Oxygen8 midi keyboard and a few little controls on an iPad running Mrmr.

The Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase is one of the highlights of the Cannes Lions Festival, and has become one of the most popular events during Cannes week. Again this year, it took place in The Grand Auditorium, with overspill into the Debussy. Saatchi & Saatchi senior creative team Jonathan Santana & Xander Smith came up with the initial concept for this year’s showcase – ‘Hello Future’, a dark, retro futuristic setting with a ‘HAL’-like host. Juliette Larthe – an independent producer (formerly of Warp Films) pulled a creative team together: Marshmallow Laser Feast (Memo Akten, Robin McNicholas, Barney Steel), Aaron Meyers, Jamie LidellClark, Mark Titchner, Gary Card.

Echo Lake: Young Silence – A Microsoft Kinect Made Music Video [video]

not all Microsoft Kinect hacks feature robots and flying things. Indie band – Echo Lake has used Microsoft’s body motion-sensing camera to film their latest music video, with impressive results.

Yes, we know this is not even remotely related to what we usually cover here on FSMdotCOM, but we think this is really cool, and would like to share it with you. Ever since marcan hacked the Microsoft Kinect ( hopefully we’re not mistaken, and he was the first to do so ) we get to see all sorts of crazy Kinect hacks popping-up everywhere. But, not all Microsoft Kinect hacks feature robots and flying things. Indie band – Echo Lake has used Microsoft’s body motion-sensing camera to film their latest music video, with impressive results.

Watch the video after the jump…. ( PS: don’t expect a badass tune, it’s just a bunch of noise… )

Using ultrasound technology, Elliptic Labs’ dock for the iPad creates a “touchless zone” around the tablet that detects the user’s hand motions. The technology is similar to the motion controls that come with Kinect and a similar demo had been portrayed by the company during the IFA in September 2010.
