Comex, who rose to fame as the 19-year-old creator of the JailbreakMe hacking tools for iPhone and iPad before being hired by Apple, has found a new home: Google.

Conducted on reddit, a small survey resulted in a very insightful infographic which shows that the average jailbreaker is a teenage boy, living in the U.S., has advanced technical skills, would spend $16.93 to jailbreak, uses an iPhone 4S or 5, and has 28 tweaks installed.

The U.S. Copyright Office Posts 600+ Pro and Anti Jailbreaking Comments

The list of commenters includes consumers, corporations, and high profile names such as Sony, Mozzila, and Saurik. The big absent from this list is Apple.

The EFF’s efforts for keeping jailbreaking legal  are definitely not passing by unnoticed. The U.S. Copyright Office has posted 660+ comments, both for and against extending the exception allowing the “jailbreaking” of smartphones. The EFF is also pushing this year for gaming consoles to join the exception.

The list of commenters includes consumers, corporations, and high profile names such as Sony, Mozzila, and Saurik. The big absent from this list is Apple.

On Friday, February 10, the Copyright Office received approximately 700 comments on the classes of works proposed for exemption from the prohibition on circumvention of technological measure that control access. Links to most of those comments appear below, and links to the remainder should appear by the end of this week (i.e., by Feb. 17, 2011). The Office is also in the process of identifying, for each comment, which proposed class(es) of works is addressed.

Jailbreaking Is Not A Crime: Help EFF Keep Jailbreaking Legal

July 26th, 2010 – the day that iOS jailbreaking/unlocking and Android rooting became officially legal thanks to EFF ( Electronic Frontier Foundation ).  This year, EFF is asking the U.S. Copyright Office to renew that exemption (otherwise it will expire) and expand it to cover tablets. We’re also asking for a new exemption to allow jailbreaking of video game consoles.

Jailbreaking Legal, But iPhone EULA Didn’t Change. Apple May Try To Brick Jailbroken iPhones…

Even though jailbreaking and unlocking has been 100% legal for over a week now , InformationWeek notes that Apple didn’t change their iPhone EULA. “Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks the OS,” Apple says in a bulletin on its support forum.”

“It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of the iOS is a violation of the Phone end-user license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software,” the note states.
