iTunes Radio’s First News Radio Channel: NPR

Apple launched iTunes Radio last fall for music fans and music labels but today the service extends with NPR adding the first news channel, and more on the way.

Apple launched iTunes Radio last fall for music fans and music labels but today the service extends with NPR adding the first news channel, and more on the way. NPR’s channels should go live today and will offer a free 24/7 stream of live news mixed with segments from pre-recorded shows like “All Things Considered” and “The Diane Rehm Show.” NPR officials say that within weeks, some of the broadcaster’s local stations should begin offering their own channels, with a similar mix of live and taped news.

Apple has launched today its iTunes Radio streaming service in Australia, the first non-U.S. country to get the service since it was launched back in September alongside iOS 7.

Apple has updated Apple TV to 6.0 to include some of the features found in iOS 7 and iTunes 11.1, including iTunes Radio, iCloud photo streams, podcasts, and AirPlay from iCloud, which allows users to play content on any other Apple TV through streaming. Updating the Apple TV is done OTA ( over-the-air ) by going to Settings> General> Software Update

Apple’s answer to services such as Spotify and Google Music All Access, iTunes Radio let’s you listen to songs on-demand and it can also curate radio stations based on a particular song/artist/album/genre ( similar to Pandora ).

It works on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, iTunes on Mac and PC and it’s completely free ( supported by ads ). iTunes Match subscribers will be able to use the service ad-free. iTunes Radio will be available just in the US at launch.

iTunes Radio is integrated into iOS 7 which will also drop on September 18th.
