Obviously, these tests aren’t scientific, but now that FaceTime has some real competition from the biggest name in video chat: Skype.

For frame of reference, the tests were performed with either an iPhone 4 and an iPod touch 4G or an iPhone 4 and a Hackintosh running OS X with a Logitech Pro 9000 webcam.

While the new iPod Touch does contain a retina display, it is not the same high quality display found in the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 uses an IPS display which offers better viewing angles.

Not necessarily a fair comparison, but we know that you people like to put everything side by side and do all sorts of tests

Not necessarily a fair comparison, but we know that you people like to put everything side by side and do all sorts of tests. When it comes to a test like this, you can’t really compare an iPhone, and iTouch and an iPad. Also, you can see the kernel showing on the iPhone 4, which means it is jailbroken, which takes a lil’ bit out of the boot speed, and we don’t know if the iPad is Wifi only or WiFi+3G. A fresh restore of all iOS devices, would give this test a far more accurate degree of comparison…
