iOS Security Flaw Enables Malicious Apps to Secretly Log User Touch Inputs

FireEye mobile security researchers found approaches to bypass Apple’s app review process effectively and exploit non-jailbroken iOS 7 successfully.

Background monitoring mobile applications has become a hot topic on mobile devices. Existing reports show that such monitoring can be conducted on jailbroken iOS devices. FireEye mobile security researchers have discovered such vulnerability, and found approaches to bypass Apple’s app review process effectively and exploit non-jailbroken iOS 7 successfully. antid0te: Upcoming Jailbreak Process Will Bring Enhanced Security To Jailbroken iPhones

Stefan Esser, a security consultant and application developer for SektionEins, has found a way to support Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) in iOS, and has developed a new jailbreak tool – to be called antid0te – to implement it, making iPhones much more resistant to malware attacks.

A German security analyst is about to unveil a new jailbreaking process that will make iPhones much more secure. Stefan Esser, a security consultant and application developer for SektionEins, has found a way to support Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) in iOS, and has developed a new jailbreak tool – to be called antid0te – to implement it, making iPhones much more resistant to malware attacks. The tool will be announced at a security conference next week and should be available soon thereafter.

New day, new update in Cydia: Firewall iP. Firewall iP, the first and only Firewall for the iPhone, got an update to 1.49. The changes are all in the background, but massive. It improves stability, memory usage and speed:

  • support for IP adresses: 123.123.123.* and 123.123.123.1-4
  • major speed improvements: 60% faster when using large rule lists (lists with 1000+ items are no problem anymore)
  • added option to delete Global Allow/Deny list
  • bugfixing
  • fixed memory leaks

HowTo: Get Better iPhone/iTouch Protection With Alphanumeric Passwords

A while ago we wrote about how can you password protect your iPhone apps with Lockdown. But as you might know, the iPhone has it’s own password protection system. You can set a 4 digit password, and everytime you want to wake the iPhone, on your lockscreen you need to insert the 4 digit password first.

iPhone Firmware 3.0 Security Bug: Shake To Undo… And Reveal Passwords

Since iPhone firmware was released, FSMdotCOM reported a couple of bugs ( read here and here ), and today is time to tell you about another security bug in iPhone firmware 3.o.

Since iPhone firmware was released, FSMdotCOM reported a couple of bugs ( read here and here ), and today is time to tell you about another security bug in iPhone firmware 3.o.

Apple (finally) introduced cut copy and paste in the iPhone OS 3.0 and they also implemented a nice feature: shake to undo. The only thing is that you can also “shake to read passwords” . All you need to do is to delete a digit and then shake to undo and you will be able to read the letter or number. It works with all the digits in a password except the first one.
