Ahead of the iPad event today, Apple unintentionally leaked the specifications for their anticipated upgrades to the iPad Air and iPad mini. The leak was discovered by Mark Gurman who noticed the two devices listed in the iPad User Guide for iOS 8 within iBooks. According to the iBook, the upcoming tablets will feature a TouchID sensor and look identical to their current form. Pricing and availability wasn’t included in the iBook, although we can expect those details to be revealed later today alongside new Mac hardware and officially releasing OS X Yosemite.
Apple Officially Announces October 16 Event
Apple‘s long-rumored October 16 event is now indeed a reality as the Cupertino tech giant recently sent out media invites for the occasion. The event, which will take place at Apple’s northern California headquarters, is expected to showcase the brand new successor to the iPad Air along with new gold iPad options, a Retina-equipped iMac, and the official launch of both OS X Yosemite and Apple Pay.

Apple released two new video ads for its “Your Verse” iPad Air campaign, in which they showcase the tablet being used in various scenarios. In the new ads, Apple profiles Esa-Pekka Salonen, a Finnish conductor who composes music with the iPad Air, and travel Blogger Cherie King who uses various apps to map her journeys and translate foreign languages on the fly.

Just a quick heads-up: With the introduction of the iPad Air, Apple dumped the 4th gen iPad keeping the iPad 2 as an ‘entry level’ option. Now it’s time to say goodbye to the iPad 2, as the company kills it to bring back the 4th gen Retina and Lightning iPad 4. Starting today the Apple Stores offer the iPad 4 at the same price as the iPad Mini with Retina display. RIP iPad 2.
