Google Maps Now Notifies iOS Users When Faster Routes Become Available

Google updated their Maps app for iOS to add a new ‘Faster Route’ feature which notifies users in navigation mode when a quicker route to their destination becomes available.

Google updated their Maps app for iOS to add a new ‘Faster Route’ feature which notifies users in navigation mode when a quicker route to their destination becomes available. When alerted that a faster route is available, users can either tap ‘No thanks’ and stay on the current route, or tap ‘Reroute’ and take the route that Google predicts will be faster.

Google Maps is available as an universal app ( iPhone and iPad ) for free on the App Store

Google has updated their Google Maps app for iOS today to v2.2.0 which comes with the mandatory bug fixes but also adds the ability to share your location on Google+

From within the app, by tapping on the sharing button, you’ll see a new option, “Google+”, and you can also select a specific circle that you want to share your location with before posting.

Apparently there’s a hidden easter-egg in the latest version of Google Maps for iOS, that allows us to cache maps for offline viewing.

This is what you need to do: just line up your map to the area you want and type ok maps. That’s it. If you’re in a supported area, the maps will be saved. If not, you get an error message telling you the the area you’re on isn’t covered. This happens to me in Barcelona, so you might consider avoiding it on your vacations.
