Get Apple’s dynamic desktop feature on your Linux machine

With macOS Mojave, Apple introduced Dynamic Desktops. Simply put, these are wallpapers that shift with the time of day, changing the lighting and look of the wallpaper with the progress of the sun across the sky. It’s a pretty nice piece of eyecandy.

When you upload a file online, you might upload more than what you’re willing to share with the world. This is valid for all types of file, being it a photo, a video or audio file, PDF etc.

The two most common file types shared online today are photos and videos. And both file types have one thing in common that can give away a lot more information than you might think. That’s metadata.

Besides what’s visible in the photo itself, metadata can reveal when and where the photo was taken, the device that was used to take the photo and other unique characteristics that can fingerprint you across the web. By not removing metadata, a hacker or OSINT researcher can easily find out where you live, where you work, your preferences and habits etc, just by extracting the Exif data hidden inside the photos you post online.

We previously covered why and how to remove metadata from a file before uploading it online, using an amazing tool called ExifTool.

If you find ExifTool too complicated to use or if it’s an overkill for your needs, here’s another free, open source and cross-platform GUI tool that’s built on top of ExifTool library: ExifCleaner.

ExifCleaner works with all file formats supported by ExifTool and allows you to process tens, hundreds, or even thousands of files at once by dragging and dropping those files onto the app window.

Also, the program automatically detects your operating system’s dark mode setting to reduce eye strain. It will change back to day mode when your computer does.

You can get ExifCleaner on Linux, macOS and Windows or build it from the source code. Linux users can download ExifCleaner as an .AppImage or .deb file.

Apple Store iOS App Updated With Free iBookstore Offering

Eariler this month Apple has begun offering the reported free iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore content through the Apple Store app.

CallBar: Never Be Interrupted By A Call Again! [giveaway]

we need is a way to dismiss that strumpet and get on with our evening, without having to pause the game…What we need, is CallBar!

Our phones these days are pretty amazing devices. We surf the web, message, navigate, and even play games. Sometimes however, we actually receive a call (I know right?!) ! While this action is expected, (it is a phone after all) a lot of times we find ourselves in the middle of something when someone wants to reach out and say hello.

What’s worse, even if we don’t care to speak to whichever girlfriend we may be blowing off tonight in favor of a marathon session of Temple Run, it switches out of the game! Not cool. What we need is a way to dismiss that strumpet and get on with our evening, without having to pause the game…What we need, is CallBar!

CallBar hit Cydia a month or so before iOS 5 dropped, and given we were all testing the beta, we couldn’t install it. Once it was finally updated for 5.0, we jumped on it like a pack of hungry wolves on a pile of meat. Could this be as awesome as we had hoped? Short answer: Yes.

CallBar uses a notification banner type alert that unobtrusively slides down from the top when receiving a call,  allowing the user to continue on with whatever it is he might be doing, no matter who calls him. Aside from that, if you have some aversion to the actual phone app, callbar even includes a nifty gesture based dialer.

BiteSMS – THE Premier Messages Replacement App for iOS [giveaway]

What exactly is biteSMS? Well aside from a full, more robust, replacement for the stock messaging app. It also offers a handy set of features called quick compose and quick reply.

Over the many months you didn’t have a jailbreak on 5.x, if you are anything like us, you were absentmindedly performing gestures on your screen to preform the various functions embedded in your muscle memory from the jailbreak. Some of these tweaks are just hard to live without, and were the first things we installed when the jailbreak finally dropped. One of these must have tweaks ( actually, biteSMS is a full blown app ), and in this reviewer’s opinion, one of the reasons to jailbreak your iPhone, is biteSMS.

What exactly is biteSMS? Well aside from a full, more robust, replacement for the stock messaging app. It also offers a handy set of features called quick compose and quick reply.

These features allow you to assign a gesture (think activator) to quickly send or receive a SMS while within another app. Saving you steps, and not interrupting your work flow.

Now, if you are familiar with such things, you would know that there are several tweaks on the app store that offer similar functionality.  These more popular alternatives include Messages+ and iRealSMS. Where biteSMS differentiates itself is design. Rather just create an (arguably) ugly popup bubble like messages+, or a 4.x style alert style popup like iReal, biteSMS took it up a notch with iOS 5 and made a custom popup based on the new tweet sheet. It honestly looks like something Apple should have bundled with the OS.

Apple has settled a class-action lawsuit in regards to the antennaegate issue suffered by millions of iPhone 4 owners around the world.

As part of a recent preliminary approval U.S residents who bought Apple’s fourth-generation phone will be entitled to $15 in cash or a bumper case provided by Apple.
