HowTo: How to Downgrade iPhone 3Gs From Firmware 3.1 to 3.0 For Users Who Have Saved The ECID via Cydia

iPhone 3GS have to communicate with Apple’s servers before allowing the installation of any version of firmware (restore or update ) .With the release of Firmware 3.1, Apple’s server has stopped certifying all previous firmware and this makes it impossible to restore your terminal to version 3.0 or 3.0.1. The certification is done through 3 files called IBSS, IBEC and ECID that, once signed, are a kind of “green light” to install the firmware through iTunes.

In the last days, FSMdotCOM offered a brief explanation of the problems regarding jailbreaking, iPhone firmware 3.1 and iPhone 3Gs. Apple and the iPhone evolved a lot in the past couple of years and they learned a couple of things when it comes to software protection against jailbreaking.

Since iPhone firmware was released, FSMdotCOM reported a couple of bugs ( read here and here ), and today is time to tell you about another security bug in iPhone firmware 3.o.

Apple (finally) introduced cut copy and paste in the iPhone OS 3.0 and they also implemented a nice feature: shake to undo. The only thing is that you can also “shake to read passwords” . All you need to do is to delete a digit and then shake to undo and you will be able to read the letter or number. It works with all the digits in a password except the first one.

Using his method, you can downgrade only through iTunes and that will make things much simpler. Saurik issue a comprehensive guide by tomorrow so that, as it becomes available, stay tuned on FSMdotCOM…

On the previous FSMdotCOM article, we’ve talked about iH8sn0w’s method on downgrading iPhone 3Gs from FW 3.1 to 3.0. Saurik informs us that he had managed to downgrade its 3GS iPhone from firmware 3.1 to 3.0, then regained the ability to run the Jailbreak. All this happened thanks to his method “ECID ShSh”, that is using the saved certificate through Cydia.

New bug discovered in iPhone OS 3.0 which affects the pictures taken with the iPhone camera that are not visible in CameraRoll. The problem is found only in the case of those images that are automatically named with the initials IMG_10000 or higher. The bug, confirmed by many users in an open thread on Apple Discussions, makes the images invisible, but the images are saved and can be imported on the PC or Mac .

  1. This type of jailbreak has some problems so it is advisable to wait for the programs of the DevTeam. It seems, in fact, that Geohot made available purplera1n to entice a team of hackers to release their tools before firmware 3.1.
  2. With purplera1n may happen that the iPhone is put into Recovery Mode and that the jailbreak is not done properly.
  3. The jailbreak of purplera1n appears incomplete. Some patches are not present and for this reason some applications like Winterboard, will not work.

The procedure for jailbreaking iPhone 3Gs with purplera1n is pretty simple: just, in fact, start the program, click a few buttons, wait, and finally click on the Freeze, which will appear on Springboard, to install Cydia.

DevTeam Unlocked iPhone 3Gs [video]

A brief demonstration of the iPhone Dev Team’s unlock for the new iPhone 3G S. Special thanks to for the at+xlog vulnerability, a gift to the community that has kept on giving!

The DevTeam is back again to speak. This time, the official blog was published a video produced by planetbeing showing an unlocked iPhone 3Gs with ultrasn0w.

Hackers reveal that their tool works on the new device exactly as on the iPhone 3G.

The method, however, is rendered unusable by the 3.1 firmware update.

The DevTeam therefore call again on the owners of iPhone 3Gs to stay away from the 3.1 update  and to wait for the release of the programs they developed that will allow you to update your iPhone to avoid the update of Baseband .

iPhone OS 3.0 – Coming “This Summer”

iphone-os-3-software

Location : Cupertino, California. Date : 17.03.2009. Time : 10:00 AM . The new iPhone OS 3.0 to be announced. You can listen to Coldplay than Jack Johnson. And , let the game begin….

SDK

First thing on the list was about about what Apple’s doing for developers in 3.0. The SDK gives developers the same APIs and tools that they use (almost, there are some parts of the phone hidden for security and performance reasons). 3.0 brings 1,000 new APIs.

App Store enhancements

Some developers have said they like to have other business models other than the current sell-once model that’s in the App Store. What are some? Subscriptions for magazine developers, additional levels for game devs, and eBook devs, who want to sell one app and sell eBooks inside the app. They’re supporting ALL of these things now with In App Purchase.

Inside the app you will get prompts like continuing to purchase issues of magazines (6 issues for $5, for example), or buying more levels (add ten more levels for a game for $2).

It uses the same iTunes password and username, using the same APIs and same purchase scheme.

Another example is for city guides. Instead of selling a huge city guide app, you can sell one city guide app, then sell each individual city separately (and for more money) inside the app. The entire scheme is tied into the iTunes store.

The business model for in-app purchase is the same as the store. The developer sets the price for each in-app item, 70% of the revenue goes to the developer, and there are no credit card fees. They continue to be paid monthly. This is ONLY for paid apps, not for a free app that developers want to charge for once you’ve already downloaded it.So in essence, free apps are still totally free. You won’t be tricked into paying for anything.
