Apple Banning Hackers From The App Store

This is only natural for Apple to do, but lets just hope that they won’t start ban everyone with a modified firmware. Let’s hope because we love this device, but without a jailbreak we would all be Droids…

Does the name Sherif Hashim ring any bells? Well, you might have read about him in our previous posts, as being the dude that managed to crash the new baseband and because of that, an unlock for 3.1.3 might be on its way.

Well Sherif claims that Apple banned him from the appstore for “security reasons” and he comments about the “incident” via a tweet:

and guess what my apple ID was, “sherif_hashim@yahoo.com”, what a fool was me not to notice :))), can’t help laughing, they are babies :)))

Fake 3.1.3: Fake Your Way To iPhone Firmware 3.1.3

If you didn’t update, you didn’t miss a single thing, but maybe the time will come when an update or a new app will ask you for firmware 3.1.3. So , will you update? No, you can use a nice little tweak found in Cydia to fake your firmware to 3.1.3. This will not affect in any way your jailbreak or unlock.

Earlier this month Apple pushed iPhone firmware 3.1.3 , which updates the baseband to 05.12.01. You can jailbreak the new firmware with redsn0w, pwnagetool or sn0wbreeze, but at the moment it is impossible to unlock ( pwnagetool and sn0wbreeze lets you create custom .ipsw firmwares to jailbreak your iDevices and not update the baseband ) .

First you need to load Cydia and add this source: http://cy.sosiphone.com/ . Once the source is loaded, simply search for Fake 3.1.3 and install it. Once you reboot your iDevice, go to Settings>General>About and you should see Version: 3.1.3 (7E18)

NOTE: you do not need this tweak, unless an app that you really want requires the latest Apple update.

PwnageTool For 3.1.3 In The Making. iPhone 3G and 3Gs Users Do Not Update

PwnageTool will allow you to create custom firmwares that you can use to jailbreak your iDevices, and not update the baseband. That way you can still use the existing tools to unlock.

In our preview article, we took a first look at Sn0wbreeze v1.3. , and we told you that you should not expect any tool updates from the iPhone DevTeam or GeoHot. Well it seems that the iPhone DevTeam is working on an update for PwnageTool , and they ask iPhone 3G and 3Gs users to not rush into an update.

First Look At Sn0wbreeze v1.3: Jailbreak iPhone Firmware 3.1.3 With Custom .ipsw

If you really want to update to 3.1.3 and still be able to unlock, you still have a hope: Sn0wbreeze. Currently the tool is in private beta, and it supports all iPhones.

As you know, firware 3.1.3 is updating the baseband so, if you are depending on unlock, you should not update. You can downgrade from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 ( need firmware 3.1.2 because Apple is not signing it anymore ) if you really want to ( won’t downgrade the baseband though ) , but don’t expect the DevTeam or GeoHot to release any tool updates soon.

MuscleNerd and GeoHot: Two Different Views On Early 3.1.3 Upgraders

Since this is not a major update and the existing tools are able to jailbreak firmware 3.1.3 on half of the devices, it is only natural that no one will bother on updating any tool, since theres a major OS update just around the corner.

After George said that there is no solution for 3.1.3 on newer devices or 05.12.01 baseband, he tweeted again ( by the way, did you notice theres a FSM celebration everytime George or MuscleNerd tweets? ) stating the obvious harsh reality. The firmware that Apple pushed a couple of days ago is not of such importance , that people absolutely must upgrade their devices.

GeoHot: No Solution For 3.1.3 On Newer Devices Or 05.12.01 Baseband

It seems that George is not working on a new update , and i think there won’t be anything available since we might get firmware 3.2 in March.

This is sad news for everybody who was depending on an unlock and in a rush to update to the latest firmware 3.1.3 or updated by mistake. As you might know, you can jailbreak firmware 3.1.3 but with some restrictions.
