HOW TO: Downgrade Your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad IF You Have Your SHSH Blobs Saved [Mac and Windows]

brief explanation of SHSH blobs, and how to restore your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad once you have them on file…

There’s a lot of confusion about the SHSH blobs, and once saved ( see tutorial here and here ), how can we use them to downgrade our iOS devices. The problem is, that iOS devices have to communicate with Apple’s servers before allowing the installation of any version of firmware (restore or update ) .With the release of Firmware 3.1.3, Apple’s server has stopped certifying all previous firmware and this makes it impossible to restore your device to a previous release. The certification is done through 3 files called IBSSIBEC and ECID that, once signed, they are a kind of “green light” to install the firmware through iTunes.

TinyUmbrella Updated To v4.00.45

TinyUmbreall was updated to v4.00.45 which makes the tool a bit better and fixes a couple of detection issues from the previous release

If you are not a new iOS device user, or new to the “dark side” , then you know what firmware umbrella and tinytss is. If you don’t here you go:

  • Umbrella – The tool simply performs the same challenge request that iTunes does during an iDevice restore. The difference is that it saves the results in a single shsh file. This file will give you the ability, to restore back to a previous firmware indefinitely
  • TinyTSS – is a small java app that acts as your very own signature service. When iTunes verifies your restore for your iDevice, it ‘phones home’ to see if you are allowed to restore to the version you are requesting. With TinyTSS + the shsh blob file(s) you obtained with Umbrella, you will be able to restore to the version of those shsh files forever!
  • TinyUmbrella – merge the two tools described above
