iPhone DevTeam: Be Aware Of Scams And Don’t Rush, Unlock Might Come…

The iPhone DevTeam rings the alarm on some scam sites pretending they have an unlock solution for firmware 3.1.3 and the new iBoot.

This is nothing new and not iPhone related ONLY. There are always some people that are trying to capitalize from the naivety or inattention of others. The iPhone DevTeam rings the alarm on some scam sites pretending they have an unlock solution for firmware 3.1.3 and the new iBoot. They don’t have it, and jailbreaking/unlocking software will always be free. It even says so when you load them…

Regarding to our previous post, Sheriff Hashim did manage to crash the baseband and possibly find an exploit. But this does not mean that it is 100% certain a new unlock tool will be released. The iPhone DevTeam is conducting various tests, and if successful a new tool will be released. There is no estimated release date, and ( again ) it is not certain that a new tool will be released.

Dev-Team: Do Not Update To iPhone Firmware 3.1 Yet

In case you dont know the drill by now, the Dev-Team is is re-warning users not to update their iPhone software when Apple releases the 3.1 firmware.This week Apple will be all over the news with their announcements at Wednesday’s “Let’s Rock” event. But with so many new owners of the iPhone 3GS, and with so many new owners of the iPhone 3G (perhaps sold to them buy these new 3GS owners)…now is a good time to send out this general advisory.

If you update to Apple’s new software using the normal iTunes process, you will lose your ultrasn0w unlock. In fact you may lose it permanently, because for most people the baseband firmware cannot be reverted to a previous version (unlike the main application CPU firmware).

But don’t worry…our PwnageTool program let’s you update your main firmware without touching your baseband firmware, so you can still have the best of both worlds. But you must be diligent about saying “no” to your iTunes request this week to update your firmware.

Pros are many and we start from the very fact that the method of applying the GeoHot hack does not provide the use of daemons and background processes.

The only con is that it can not be turned off with a Toggle, but, frankly, who is in need of a toggle to turn off the phone? (And in any case already exists the Airplane Mode).

Anyway, let’s recap how to use PurpleSn0w:

Be sure to have legit activated 3GS
Disable 3G if you don’t have it(like T-Mobile).
Add apt.geohot.com to Cydia
Install com.geohot.purplesn0w
Watch for success output in Cydia
Reboot, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone

GeoHotz: iPhone 3Gs Jailbreak Is Easy, But We Have To Wait

George Hotz, spreads the word that iPhone 3Gs jailbreak is extremely easy, but we have to wait for the next FW update. The reason is simple, Apple can block anytime the JB, if they know what the tools do.

On a previous FSMdotCOM post, you were informed that iPhone 3Gs was unlocked by GeoHotz but the iPhone Dev Team delays the release.

After being questioned on iPhone 3Gs jailbreak, GeoHotz responded by saying that the process is really simple because it is enough to add only 10 lines of code in Redsn0w, the Tool of the DevTeam.

At this point we should wait for the new firmware 3.0.1 to be able to perform the Jailbreak dell’iPhone 3GS!

The new firmware is scheduled to be released sometime in July, so you just have to wait a couple more days, but my guess is that its worth waiting.

The reason is simple: Given that the Firmware 3.0 is full of bugs, it is clear that Apple will release an update soon. If the DevTeam release programs, Apple will probably be able to block them with the next update.

HowTo: Unlock iPhone 3G Running OS 3.0 With UltraSn0w

UltraSn0w was finally released and makes it dead simple to unlock your iPhone 3G running iPhone OS 3.0. Unlike its predecessor YellowSn0w,UltraSn0w will unlock your iPhone 3G no matter what bootloader or baseband you have, as long as you have the new 3.0 firmware installed.

Finally , iPhone 3G OS 3.0 unlock is here with UltraSn0w. Unlike its predecessor YellowSn0w,UltraSn0w will unlock your iPhone 3G no matter what bootloader or baseband you have, as long as you have the new 3.0 firmware installed.

The unlock process is dead simple, and you dont have to worry about screwing up. All you need to do is to install UltraSn0w from Cydia or Icy, and then reboot your iPhone and enjoy. Way to go iPhone Dev-Team.

NOTE: UltraSn0w is only valid for the iPhone 3G. According to the Dev Team, this hack may be applicable to the new iPhone 3Gs if it can be jailbroken, which should happen sometimes soon.

1. Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0
2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
3. Run Cydia or Icy
4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G
7. Enjoy

NOTE: T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w

iPhone OS 3.0 Jailbreak Is Delayed

I know that all of you are waiting for the official iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak. I am too. Dev-Team announced that it will come this week and since they announced that iPhone OS 3.0 official unlock will be available on friday we all assumed that the jailbreak will come wednesday night or at least thursday morning (at least i was ).

iPhone Dev-Team just announced new minor problems that they are trying to fix, and they probably will release a preliminary jailbreak for those of you who cant wait anymore… :

* We have two issues that we’ve been trying to resolve:

1. There are new 3.0 complications with YouTube.app if you’re on a hacktivated (unofficially activated) device

2. There’s a bug in Apple’s new version of asr that our custom IPSW’s are tickling and causing crashes on, on some devices. (For the nerdy or curious among us, the details of that bug were tweeted by planetbeing a month ago.)

* As of Thursday morning we now have a workaround for #2. For #1, we’ll try our best to get it fixed but we may end up releasing a preliminary jailbreak in which YouTube doesn’t work for hacktivated devices, and then follow that up with a more complete jailbreak when we can.
