Apple is setting up an impressively large 500,000 square foot iDatacenter in Maiden, North Carolina, making it nearly 5 times larger than Apple’s data center in Newark, California.

Apple is setting up an impressively large 500,000 square foot iDatacenter in Maiden, North Carolina, making it nearly 5 times larger than Apple’s data center in Newark, California ( 109,000 square foot ). Apple invested $1 billion in their new iDataCenter, making it one of the largest data centers in the world.

It is rumored that Apple will use the new data center for upcoming cloud computing initiatives relating to iTunes that may involve streaming media content from the cloud. They should move fast, because, if Spotify will be released in the wild, iTunes is D.E.A.D.
