The Internet is abuzz with rumors of a fingerprint sensor which would be integrated into the iPhone’s home button to be included with the iPhone 5S. If the rumor is true, the combination button would allow Apple to keep its minimalist design while maintaining an edge on its competitors.
Of course immediate results of such a feature would allow for Apple to do away with usernames and passwords and for integration in apps like Passbook. The rumors make sense given the company’s recent acquisition of AuthenTec and their unique “Smart Sensor” component.
These rumors come on the heels of recent gossip over the device’s availability in multiple colors and a less expensive iPhone. In either case, both products wouldn’t ship until the second or third quarter at the earliest and we’re sure to have more information by then. Stay tuned…
