Apple Drops Official Podcasts App

A little over a week ago, it was reported that Apple was working on a standalone podcast app that would debut in the upcoming iOS 6. Well, turns out the report was right. Apple was working on a podcast app—only it didn’t wait for iOS 6 to release it.

The new app is easy to navigate. Upon launch you’re greeted with all the podcasts to which you’ve subscribed. There’s a “Catalog” in the top left corner that lets you browse for new podcasts. If you want to peep something popular, you can hit the “Top Stations” button at the bottom.

The app features a few old school flourishes such as a dial that you rotate to select podcast categories. When you play a podcast, the screen will mimic an old tape player.

The Podcasts app requires your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch to run iOS 5.1 and above and it’s available for free in the app store
