At today’s event, Apple officially released the Apple Watch but the most interesting announcement was not the watch but the new MacBook.

The new laptop might seem as an update to the MacBook Air line but it’s an entirely new product line, separate from the Pro and Air.

The new MacBook has a similar aesthetic to the MacBook Air, with a unibody aluminum chassis. Has a stunning 12-inch, 2,304 x 1,440 Retina Display, but it’s much lighter and thinner than the Air. It weighs only two pounds and it’s just 13.1mm at its thickest point.

The keyboard was redesigned with wider buttons and a new butterfly mechanism makes each key more stable, more precise, and 40% thinner.

You can do the same thing over an event, and it will pop up a calendar event. It woks the same for file previews and fast-forward or rewind extra fast in QuickTime.

Given the thickness of the new MacBook, Apple didn’t just have to rethink the keyboard and trackpad but also the insides of the machine. The laptop has only one port. That’s it. It’s a USB Type-C port and you can use it to charge the laptop as well as use adapters to make it work with HDMI, VGA and DisplayPorts.

Apple also removed the fan inside the computer and reduced the logic board size which is 67% smaller than the one in the 11-inch MacBook Air.

So what did Apple do with all the leftover space inside the new MacBook? Well, they used that space for battery storage.

The new MacBook get’s an all day battery life, with up to 9 hours of web browsing and up to 10 hours of iTunes movie playback.

The new MacBook will be available in silver, space gray, and, “stunning gold.” The starting price is $1,299 and shipping begins on April 10th. Schiller closed off the presentation by noting that the new MacBook is “the world’s most energy-efficient notebook,” according to data from the US Environmental Protection Agency.
