The default remote control for your Apple TV is small, slick, and smooth. It is also thought to be too small and somewhat limited in features. Fortunatelly, Apple TV’s have a simple, yet amazing, ability to use a remote that camewith your TV, cable box, or DVD player to also control Apple TV (1st, 2nd and 3rd generation).

Jump over the break to check out how to use any 3rd part remote control with your Apple TV…

Ever since the iPod nano 6th generation hit the shelves, the tech world has been going nuts for touch screen, “smart watches”. While the Nano was quite cool, with its brilliant full color LCD and touch based interface, it left a Lot to be desired. Several other attempts have surfaced here and there, but non have yet achieved techno bliss. What we had been clamoring for is not just an extra accessory.

Our phones these days are pretty amazing devices. We surf the web, message, navigate, and even play games. Sometimes however, we actually receive a call (I know right?!) ! While this action is expected, (it is a phone after all) a lot of times we find ourselves in the middle of something when someone wants to reach out and say hello.

What’s worse, even if we don’t care to speak to whichever girlfriend we may be blowing off tonight in favor of a marathon session of Temple Run, it switches out of the game! Not cool. What we need is a way to dismiss that strumpet and get on with our evening, without having to pause the game…What we need, is CallBar!

CallBar hit Cydia a month or so before iOS 5 dropped, and given we were all testing the beta, we couldn’t install it. Once it was finally updated for 5.0, we jumped on it like a pack of hungry wolves on a pile of meat. Could this be as awesome as we had hoped? Short answer: Yes.

CallBar uses a notification banner type alert that unobtrusively slides down from the top when receiving a call,  allowing the user to continue on with whatever it is he might be doing, no matter who calls him. Aside from that, if you have some aversion to the actual phone app, callbar even includes a nifty gesture based dialer.

New day, new tweak in Cydia. SpotTweet allows sending Tweets right from the spotlight search page on your iOS device. Install the app and tap the new icon added to your home screen. This will allow you to log into Twitter using oAuth and allow the app to use your Twitter username. That’s it. Scroll to the Spotlight page and type in your tweet in the search bar.

SpotTweet is available in Cydia via modmyi repo…

iPad cases. There are seemingly millions of them. It’s truly insane, just check google if you don’t believe me. Every once in a while though, a decent one floats to the top of the pile… Unfortunately, this isn’t one of those cases. That said, it’s not terrible for the type of case we are dealing with here.

The 5.11 tactical iPad case was a pretty cool thought. Im sure some engineer, sitting in his desk, dreaming about the old days, had an epiphany one day. He said, “you know what would be cool as hell? Let’s take a flac vest and wrap it around an iPad!”, and they got some good laughs about it. Then some out of touch executive saw the napkin he drew it on in the trash, loved the idea, and went with it.

As you may well be aware, there are very few “good” twitter clients made specifically for iPad. Sitting here right now, I can think of maybe 5 clients that are notable enough to even consider worthy of a mention. They are of corse not going to be listed, as they are now irrelevant. Pull them from the store, they really don’t matter anymore.

That’s right ladies and gentleman, Tweetbot for iPad… Is finally here.

As most of you are probably aware, Spotify is rapidly gaining popularity in the US, much like it has internationally. Unfortunately, their iPhone app is rather lacking. And that’s being nice. Today though, a bright spot has emerged from the murky depths of the ocean that is the app store.

Here we come again with yet another app review. Today I would like to present “DoodleDriver” for your consideration. The app, brand new to the store, claims to be an engrossing, addictive experience. While this is not that hard to attain with a game such as this, these devs have gone out of their way to make an unique and fun experice. Not only to set their game apart from the rest, but to keep you coming back for more. How did they do? If I told you now, you would just leave. Read on and see.

If you are a avid reader of our little site, you might remember the review we did a while back of their iPhone case offering. In it you may remember I mentioned that we had yet to receive their iPad case, but that we would be doing a follow up whenever it showed up. Well, as you may have guessed… It arrived. And my I say, it was very much worth the wait.

As I’m sure most of you know, Steve Jobs died from complications related to pancreatic cancer. What you may not know is that you don’t have to be the CEO of the worlds biggest tech company to have the disease. In fact many people die every year from it. If you can take anything good from Steve’s death, it’s that with it, he brought pancreatic cancer to the forefront of people’s thoughts.
